HENDERSON, Tenn. — (April 16, 2026) — ĢTV’s 10th annual University Scholars’ Day will showcase recent scholastic research and projects from a variety of fields through lectures, displays and musical performances beginning with chapel and keynote speaker Dr. Nathan Howard, a professor of history at the University of Tennessee at Martin. The day begins at 8:30 am and concludes at noon Friday, April 24, 2026, in Dryden Auditorium.

Classes are suspended for the campus-wide event. Howard will share his message on Scholarship, Faith, and the Formation of Virtue and was invited to speak by Dr. Rick Brumback. Howard graduated with a B.A. in Bible and history from Harding University in 1994. He completed his M.A. in history at Baylor University in 1996, and he earned his Ph.D. in history at the University of Arkansas in 2005. At UT-Martin, he was honored with the Outstanding Teacher/Scholar Award in 2025.

Students are dismissed to learn from the approximately 41 presentations, including four musical performances and six posters displayed for independent viewing. Some of the topics include reports on a medical mission trip to Ghana, using artificial intelligence in research, developing a campus arboretum, and the impact that a bilingual physician can have on medical care.

After the presentations all participants and faculty will take part in a luncheon on the first floor of the Brown-Kopel Business Center.

Dr. Joe Deweese, director of undergraduate research, emphasized the importance of the 10th annual Scholars’ Day in continuing a tradition of academic excellence and inspiring students to challenge themselves.

“Scholars’ Day is an opportunity for our campus to pause and share the work that is going on across campus. As faculty, our desire is for our students to learn to think critically, engage deeply, and take ownership of their academic journeys. We can see that on display during Scholars’ Day. As we celebrate 10 years, it is a great moment to look back and see the progress and growth in our students and faculty over the last decade.”
